Overview

The ArborXR Home and ArborXR Kiosk Mode launch methods allow in-headset users to leverage the respective device’s native Casting capability to view a headset's contents on another device. This can include supported mobile phones, tablets, and smart TVs. Below is a quick guide to cast from ArborXR Home and ArborXR Kiosk Mode.

💡 Casting is different from ArborXR’s Remote View feature, which is available on select devices. Click here to learn more about Remote View.

💡The Screencast shortcut may be disabled from the ArborXR Web Portal. If the Casting option does not appear for a user, the Screencast option will need to be enabled under the desired Ungrouped Device or Group of devices, respectively, under Devices or Groups > Click on the desired Device/Group > Headset Experience > Show Shortcuts> Select Screencast, then scroll down and click Apply Changes. Bring any devices online while connected to Wi-Fi and allow 1-2 minutes for the change to reflect inside each headset.

Starting a Cast in ArborXR Home

  1. If an app is currently running, exit it by clicking your device’s Home button. This will be either controller-based inside the headset 1) via physical controller or 2) handtracking, or on the outside of the headset via headset menu buttons.

  2. From the ArborXR Home Universal Bar at the bottom of the screen, click the Casting option.

  3. Depending on your device, it may temporarily exit ArborXR Kiosk Mode to your device’s home environment and open the device’s native casting 2D pop-up (HTC VIVE or PICO devices) or pop-up within ArborXR Home (Meta Quest devices).

    1. For Quest devices: choose Meta Quest mobile app or Computer.

      1. You can learn more about casting on Quest devices here (using ArborXR, you will only use the Cast to a phone and Cast to a computer options in the article).

    2. For Miracast-based devices: wait a few seconds then select the device you wish to cast to and click to allow/accept the cast on the device receiving the cast.

💡For Meta Quest devices, the Quest Casting screen may superimpose on top of ArborXR Home. ArborXR, unfortunately, does not have control over this and can vary between each Quest OS update. If you observe this, simply select the desired casting option and click the Home button once more to exit the menu.

Notes on Stopping a Cast

The ability to stop a screencast using a device’s native casting varies from device to device. Here are a few examples on how to stop a cast on some of the more popular ArborXR-supported devices. These are not inclusive of all devices that support Casting, but are the most popular devices in use:

  • Meta Quest

    • Computer: Simply close the browser window.

    • Meta Quest mobile app: Simply stop the cast by clicking the ‘X’ button in the upper-left corner of the Meta Quest mobile app casting screen.

    • As ArborXR does not have the ability to stop a cast within a Quest headset, note that the recording indicator may remain active in-headset. However, once either the browser window has been closed or the casting is exited on the Meta Quest mobile app, it should stop displaying within a few minutes.

  • PICO and VIVE devices (Miracast)

    • After casting to the selected device, click the Settings (gear icon) button, then click Forget. This should immediately stop the cast.
