A configuration group is a grouping of devices with shared content (including apps, files, videos, and WebXR links) and settings (such as ArborXR Home and Wi-Fi).

Configuration groups are device agnostic so you can add any device model across any manufacturer to the same group.

Given configuration groups are device agnostic, it's important to understand what happens when adding apps and configuring settings in the scenario of a group with multiple device models.

  • Applications added to a group will only install on compatible devices.

  • Settings will only apply on compatible devices.

To illustrate, let's use the example of a configuration group with a mix of PICO 4 Enterprise and Meta Quest 3S devices:

  • If you add an app that is compatible with Meta Quest 3S to the group, the app will only install on the Meta Quest 3S devices in that group. The app will not install on the PICO 4 Enterprise devices.

  • If you configure ArborXR Home or ArborXR Kiosk Mode, this will apply across both the Meta Quest 3S and PICO 4 Enterprise devices, as ArborXR Home and ArborXR Kiosk Mode are supported across both Meta and PICO platforms.

  • If you configure PICO system settings, these settings will only apply on the PICO devices in the group.

  • You can manage OS updates on a per-device-model basis. Choose the device models you wish to update and configure their specific OS settings. If a device model is not applicable to your organization or group, maintain the default OS update setting of Not Managed by ArborXR.

πŸ’‘ While ArborXR supports the nesting of groups for customers on the Essential and Enterprise plans, it's important to note that you still need to create configuration groups to configure devices, content, and settings. For more information about nested groups, see this article.
