Overview

With nested groups, you can create parent groups and an unlimited number of nested sub-groups. This allows you to model your groups after your real-world company structure and manage devices in a more logical fashion. For example, you may create a parent group for an entire corporate division, with nested sub-groups for individual departments, locations, teams, etc.

With the flexible hierarchy enabled by nested groups, you gain more granular control over your devices. Groups can be leveraged more strategically to enable easier scalability as your deployment grows.

Create Groups

  1. Navigate to Devices & Groups.

  2. Click on the + icon in the secondary navigation menu next to Groups.

  3. Enter a title then click Add Group.

πŸ’‘ After at least one group has been created, when creating additional groups by clicking on the + icon you will have the option to assign the group to a parent group while creating it.

Create Sub-Groups

  1. Navigate to Devices & Groups.

  2. Navigate to the parent group in question.

  3. Click Add Sub-group:

    • If the parent group you are adding the sub group to does not have any other sub groups, you will find the Add Sub-group button front and center.

    • If the parent group you are adding the sub group to has other sub groups, you will find the Add Sub-group button above the devices table towards the top right.

πŸ’‘ You can create an unlimited number of nested sub-groups within the parent group by following these steps.

Configure Groups with Devices, Content & Settings

Once you have created parent groups and sub-groups that model your real-world company structure, you are now ready to add devices and configure them. To configure a group:

  1. Navigate to the sub group to which you would like to add devices.

  2. Click Configure Group.

  3. Select the Device Type the group will support then click Confirm.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: If your departments or company locations (represented by sub-groups in ArborXR) have multiple device types deployed you will need to create a separate configuration group per device type.

For example, let's say you are a multinational enterprise with offices in San Francisco and Tokyo. You may want to configure your parent and sub groups accordingly:

Let's say both the San Francisco office and the Tokyo office have a mix of VIVE Focus 3, PICO Neo 3 Pro, Meta Quest 3 & Lenovo VRX headsets. You will need to create separate configuration groups within San Francisco and Tokyo for VIVE Focus 3, PICO Neo 3 Pro, Meta Quest 3 & Lenovo VRX. To configure this:

  1. Navigate to the San Francisco sub-group.

  2. Click Add Sub-group and title it VIVE Focus 3.

  3. Navigate back to the San Francisco sub group.

  4. Click Add Sub-group and title it PICO Neo 3 Pro.

  5. Navigate back to the San Francisco sub group.

  6. Click Add Sub-group and title it Meta Quest 3.

  7. Navigate back to the San Francisco sub group.

  8. Click Add Sub-group and title it Lenovo VRX.

  9. Repeat steps 1-8 for the Tokyo sub-group.

Your group hierarchy will now look like this:

Finally:

  1. Navigate to the VIVE Focus 3, PICO Neo 3 Pro, Meta Quest 3 & Lenovo VRX groups (one at a time) and click Configure Group.

  2. Select the corresponding Device Type.

  3. Click Confirm.

You can now add compatible devices to the group and begin configuring them with the desired Content, Headset Experience, and Settings. For more information about configuring configuration groups, see this collection of articles.
