Overview
Prior to ArborXR's release on May 31st, 2025, groups supported a single device type. This meant creating a separate group for PICO Neo 3 Pro and PICO 4 Enterprise devices, or Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 devices. Now, groups are device agnostic meaning you can organize and manage different device models within a single group. This reduces the number of groups that need to be created in mixed device deployment scenarios, reducing clutter and streamlining configuration.
What to Expect When Configuring Device Agnostic Groups
Now that groups are device agnostic, it's important to understand what happens when adding apps and configuring settings in the scenario of a group with multiple device models.
Applications added to a group will only install on compatible devices.
Settings will only apply on compatible devices.
To illustrate, let's use the example of a group with a mix of PICO 4 Enterprise and Meta Quest 3S devices:
If you add an app that is compatible with Meta Quest 3S to the group, the app will only install on the Meta Quest 3S devices in that group. The app will not install on the PICO 4 Enterprise devices.
If you configure ArborXR Home or ArborXR Kiosk Mode, this will apply across both the Meta Quest 3S and PICO 4 Enterprise devices, as ArborXR Home and ArborXR Kiosk Mode are supported across both Meta and PICO platforms.
If you configure PICO system settings, these settings will only apply on the PICO devices in the group.
You can manage OS updates on a per-device-model basis. Choose the device models you wish to update and configure their specific OS settings. If a device model is not applicable to your organization or group, maintain the default OS update setting of Not Managed by ArborXR.
Steps to Consolidate Groups
π‘ All groups, including those created prior to this release, are now device agnostic. You may want to reduce the number of groups in your organization by (1) moving devices between groups then (2) deleting the unnecessary groups.
Step 1: Move devices between groups:
Navigate to the group you would like to move devices to.
βπ‘ Ensure the group you are migrating devices to is configured with the correct content and settings, so that upon moving devices to this group they are configured correctly and without disruption.
Select Add Devices.
Select the Grouped tab. This will display devices that are in other groups.
Select the device(s) you wish to move.
Click Add Devices.
Step 2: Delete unnecessary groups:
Navigate to the group you would like to delete.
Click on the edit icon in the top right hand corner.
Select Delete Group.
