Overview

To set up devices with ArborXR, Meta’s Debug Mode must be enabled, which requires a Meta account that has been added to and verified within a Meta Quest Developer organization. Debug Mode is a setting within the Quest’s Developer Mode and must be enabled and accepted on the Quest device before setting up ArborXR. This knowledge base article details how to set up a Meta Quest Developer Account and Organization.

Step 1: Create a Quest Developer Account

💡 For this step, you’ll either need to:

  1. Create a new Meta account.

  2. Sign in with an existing Meta, Facebook, or Instagram account.

If you’ve already set up your Meta accounts and need to enable Developer Mode/Debug Mode, see our article on Developer Mode & Debug Mode on Meta Quest Devices.

  1. Click Sign up.

  2. On the next page, select either:

    • Continue with Facebook or Continue with Instagram if you have linked a Facebook and/or Instagram account to your Meta account.

    • Continue with email if:

      1. Your Meta account is not linked to a Facebook or Instagram account (this will not link your Meta account to either).

      2. Setting up a Meta account for the first time.

  3. After signing into either your newly created Meta account OR your Meta, Facebook, or Instagram account, you’ll be directed to the webpage for your new Meta Quest developer organization.

Step 2: Create your Meta Quest Developer Organization

💡 If you have already set up a Quest Developer Organization, you can add additional Meta accounts under the same Quest Developer Organization. You'll need to create the Meta accounts first but you can learn more about adding your Meta accounts to an existing Quest Developer Organization here [Meta Quest Developer documentation].

Need help keeping track of your Meta accounts? Our team put together a few Device Tracker spreadsheets geared towards our Education and Enterprise customers that you are welcome to use, attached at the bottom of this article.

If you’ve already added all your accounts to your Meta Quest Developer organization, see this article to set up your Quest devices with its Meta account and enable Debug Mode.

  1. Verify your Meta Quest Developer Account. Either choose:

    1. Add (Add a credit card).

    2. Set Up (Setup Text Message Two-Factor Authentication) - also known as 2FA

      1. When setting up 2FA, select Text message (Meta does not support App-based authentication for verification purposes).

      2. After setting up Two-Factor Authentication for your account, close the page to return to the Quest Developer screen.

  2. Create your Quest Developer Organization. In the upper-left corner, click Select Organization, then click Create.

  3. Name your Developer Organization. To simplify the process, give it the same name as your institutional, organization, or company name.

  4. Click the checkbox next to I understand, then Submit.

  5. On the Developer Non-Disclosure Agreement, click the checkbox next to I agree, then Submit.

🎉 You’ve successfully set up your Meta Quest developer Account and Organization. You’re now ready to log in to your Quest device with your Meta account and enable Debug Mode.

FAQs

Can I use App-based authentication to verify my Meta Quest Developer account?

No. Meta requires SMS-based two-factor authentication (2FA) for Meta Quest Developer account verification.

After clicking Set Up Text Message Two-Factor Authentication, you’ll select the Meta account you wish to enable two-factor authentication. Select the Text message option. If you select and set up an Authentication app, your Meta Quest Developer Account will not be verified and you’ll need to select either a credit card or phone number.
