Overview

With operating system (OS) management, ArborXR allows you to:

  1. Disable automatic OS updates so you can test new versions before rolling out.

  2. Set a target OS version so devices won't auto-update beyond a version you specify.

With these capabilities, you have full control over PICO OS management rather than devices updating unpredictably. You can test the compatibility of new OS versions and strategically roll out updates when ready.

⚠️ On PICO Neo 3 Pro devices, this feature is supported on devices running PUI 4.8.19 or higher. If devices are running a PUI version earlier than 4.8.19, the devices will need to be updated to 4.8.19 outside of ArborXR.

This feature is not offered on the PICO Neo 2 and PICO G24K as these devices are end-of-life and no longer receive
OS updates from PICO.

Steps to Configure OS

  1. Navigate to the desired PICO configuration group.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Click Installs & Updates.

  4. Under Target Version, observe the default configuration is Not Managed by ArborXR. While in this state, OS updates are managed locally on the device via PICO's system settings.

  5. Click on the input beneath Target Version to display a dropdown and then select one of the following:

    1. Latest (Auto Update): Devices will automatically update to the latest PUI made available through ArborXR.

πŸ’‘ When devices are configured to Latest (Auto Update), over-the-air (OTA) updates from PICO are disabled and PUI updates are distributed via ArborXR. There may be scenarios where PICO has a PUI available OTA that is not available through ArborXR. In these scenarios devices will not update until the PUI becomes available through ArborXR. New PUI versions become available through ArborXR no later than 2 weeks after PICO's OTA release.

    2. Pin a target version: With a target version pinned, devices will update to this version but not past it, even if a new OS version is released. OS updates are disabled locally on the device and it is not possible to use PICO's System Update app to update the OS.

πŸ’‘ When pinning an OS version on a group of devices, not all devices may be on the same OS version. Some may already be on or ahead of the Target Version selected. If the Target Version selected on ArborXR is an older OS version compared to the OS version already installed on-device(s), the older version will not be installed on devices as OS rollbacks are not supported.

    3. Updates Off: OS updates are disabled locally on the device and it is not possible to use PICO's System Update app to update the OS.

  6. Configure update criteria:

    1. Automatic: The update is downloaded as soon as the device comes online. A notification in ArborXR Home prompts the user to install the update. The user can postpone the installation if desired.

If postponed, the user can install the update at any time by navigating to ArborXR Home's Advanced Settings then by clicking the Update button in the top right.

    2. Plugged In: The update is downloaded as soon as the device comes online. But it will not install until the device is plugged in. Once plugged in, the update will install immediately. A notification in ArborXR Home is not shown and the user cannot postpone the update.

    3. Scheduled: The update is downloaded as soon as the device comes online. But it will not install until the scheduled installation time. Once the device falls within the scheduled installation time, the update will install immediately. A notification in ArborXR Home is not shown and the user cannot postpone the update.

    4. Plugged In + Scheduled: The update is downloaded as soon as the device comes online. But it will not install until the device is both plugged in AND the scheduled time is reached. Once the device is plugged in and falls within the scheduled installation time, the update will install immediately. A notification in ArborXR Home is not shown and the user cannot postpone the update.

  7. Click Apply Changes to save.
