👤 Organization Owners and Admins can manage Configuration Presets by default. Custom organization roles can be granted View, Create, Edit, and Delete permissions for each preset type under Settings → Roles → Configuration Presets.
🚩 Wi-Fi Network and Certificate presets are available on all plans. The rest (System, Security, OS Updates, Content Updates, Headset Experience, and Insights Settings) are available on the Essential, Classroom Pro, Classroom Ultimate, and Enterprise plans.
Overview
Configuration Presets let you define a configuration once at the organization level and apply it to many groups and ungrouped devices at the same time. Instead of configuring each group or device directly, you build a library of reusable presets and assign them wherever they're needed.
When you update a preset, the change applies immediately to every group and device the preset is assigned to. This makes presets the easiest way to keep settings consistent across a large fleet.
The following preset types are available in the Configuration Presets library:

Who Can Create and Assign Presets
Presets are a shared organization-level resource, so creating, editing, and deleting them is an organization-level permission. Assigning an existing preset to a group is a group-level permission, so Group Admins and custom group-level roles with the required permissions can apply presets to the groups they have access to without being able to change the library itself. This works the same way as content: a group-level user with the required permissions can add and remove content in their groups, but can't upload it.

The Configure permission covers both paths: a user who can configure a settings type directly on a group can also assign or detach a preset of that type.
What group-level users see
Presets belong to the organization, not to a group. A user with a group-level role sees every preset in the organization when assigning, not only the ones already in use by their groups. They can assign any of them to the groups they have access to, but they can't open the Configuration Presets library to create or change a preset unless they also hold an organization-level role that grants it.
Create Configuration Presets
Navigate to Configuration Presets in the left sidebar.
Click Create Configuration Preset in the top right corner and choose a preset type.
Enter a Name for the preset and click Create.
The preset's own page opens. Configure its settings there, then click Save.
💡 You can also create a preset directly from a section's empty state by clicking the Click here to add your first one link.
Assign Presets to Groups and Devices
Devices in a group always receive their settings from the group, so presets are assigned either to groups or to ungrouped devices.
From the Configuration Presets Library (Bulk Assign)
Navigate to Configuration Presets in the left sidebar.
Select the checkbox next to the preset you want to assign.
Click Assign.
Choose either Assign to Groups or Assign to Ungrouped Devices.
Select the target groups or ungrouped devices, then click Assign. You can assign presets to up to 100 groups or devices per operation.
💡 Only CA certificates can be bulk assigned. SCEP, EST, and Imported PKCS certificates are attached to Wi-Fi Network presets, so they're assigned by assigning the corresponding Wi-Fi Network preset.
From a Group or Device
Headset Experience
Navigate to the group's (or ungrouped device's) Kiosk Experience
Click Configure appearance with a preset in the top right corner.
Select the Headset Experience preset to assign.
Click Assign.
Wi-Networks, Certificates, System, Security, OS Updates, Content Updates, and Insights Settings
Navigate to the group's (or ungrouped device's) Settings.
Click Manage Presets in the top right corner.
Select the presets to assign. You can filter the list by tags. For Wi-Fi Networks and Certificates you can select multiple; for all other types you select one preset per type.
Click Assign Presets.
What You'll See Once a Preset Is Assigned
A section a preset manages is labeled Configured by a preset in the settings list, and opening it leads with a Configured by a preset: [preset name] banner. The settings below the banner are shown read-only. The banner's Manage menu offers:
Edit preset: opens the preset's own page, where changes apply everywhere it's assigned.
Assign another preset: switches this group or device to a different preset of the same type.
Detach preset: disconnects the preset from this group or device.
💡 Only settings you configure in a preset are displayed. For example, if you create a System preset and configure Date & Time and Put System to Sleep After, but leave everything else at the default Not Managed by ArborXR, only those two settings will appear.
Headset Experience Preset
A Headset Experience preset controls appearance only. Content and kiosk app selections stay at the group or device level, so one preset can be reused across groups running different content. A single preset holds settings for both ArborXR Home and ArborXR Kiosk Mode, so you can apply it to groups and devices that will ultimately use either mode.

A preset is reusable, so it is not tied to a specific device or group and cannot reference content. That is why content selections are made in the Kiosk Experience tab of a group or ungrouped device.
What this looks like in practice:
After creating the Headset Experience preset and assigning it to groups or ungrouped devices:
Navigate to the group or ungrouped device the Headset Experience preset was assigned to.
Select the Kiosk Experience tab.
Select ArborXR Home or ArborXR Kiosk Mode.
Configure the content for that mode. For ArborXR Home, select visible content. For ArborXR Kiosk Mode, select the kiosk app or video.
Scroll down and click Save.
Edit a Preset
Navigate to Configuration Presets in the left sidebar.
Click on the preset to be taken to it's Details page.
Make your changes and click Save.
To rename a preset, change its tags, or delete it, use the edit (pencil) button in the top right of the preset's page. This opens the Preset Settings modal.
💡 Editing a preset updates every group and device it's assigned to.

Select the checkbox next to the preset you want to delete.
Click Edit.
Select Delete.
💡 A preset that is currently assigned to any group or device cannot be deleted. Detach it from all groups and devices first, then delete it.
Organize Presets with Tags
Presets support tags, just like devices and content. Tag a single preset from the edit (pencil) button on its page, or select one or more presets in the library and choose Edit → Edit Tags. Tags appear as a column in the library and can be used to filter presets when assigning them from the Manage Presets modal.
How Devices Get Their Settings
Devices in a group always use their group's configuration. Grouped devices are managed at the group level and don't have individual settings.
Ungrouped devices use their own assigned configuration.
For each settings type, a group or ungrouped device uses either an assigned preset or its own direct configuration — never both. Assigning a preset replaces the direct configuration for that type.
Sub-groups do not inherit presets from their parent group. Assign presets to each group that should use them.
If nothing is assigned for a settings type, the group or device uses the ArborXR default settings.
Require Configuration Presets
For organizations that want to standardize entirely on presets, the Require Configuration Presets setting disables direct configuration of groups and devices.
When enabled, groups must be configured using Configuration Presets. Direct configuration on individual groups is disabled.
Navigate to Settings → General.
In the Features card, enable Require Configuration Presets.
💡 To enable the setting, every group and ungrouped device must already be using presets for the preset-managed settings types. If any are still configured directly, you'll see Unable to Require Configuration Presets, and you can click View Groups & Devices to see exactly which groups and devices need a preset assigned before you can turn it on.
To speed up the migration of these groups and ungrouped devices to presets, you can bulk assign presets to up to 100 groups or ungrouped devices at a time.
While the setting is on:
The preset-managed settings types can no longer be edited directly on groups and devices.
When detaching a preset, the Keep the settings the same option is unavailable, since keeping a copy would configure the group or device directly.
A section with no preset assigned shows Your organization enforces configuration presets in place of its settings, with a link to assign a preset or to create the first one of that type.

The preset is still assigned to at least one group or device. Detach it everywhere first from the preset's Assignments tab, then delete it.

That section is managed by a Configuration Preset. Look for the Configured by a preset label at the top of the section. Use the banner’s Manage menu to edit the preset, assign another one, or detach it to manage the group directly.
If instead you see Your organization enforces configuration presets, direct configuration is turned off for your organization and a preset must be assigned to configure the section.

Nothing is deleted, and assigned presets continue to configure your devices exactly as before. Preset management (creating, editing, assigning) is paused until access is restored. The one action that remains available is unlinking a preset from a group or device. If access is restored, your full preset library is intact and manageable again.
