Add Meta AI glasses to ArborXR for Remote Assistance

Pair Ray-Ban Meta or Oakley Meta HSTN glasses to an Android phone enrolled in ArborXR, then stream the wearer's point-of-view camera and talk to them through the glasses for hands-free remote support.

Overview

Meta AI glasses (e.g. Ray-Ban Meta, Meta Ray-Ban Display, Oakley Meta Vanguard and Oakley Meta HSTN) can be added to the ArborXR portal as paired peripherals of an Android phone. Once added, admins can:

  • Stream the wearer's point-of-view camera feed to the ArborXR portal

  • Speak with the wearer through the glasses' speaker and hear them back through the glasses' microphone (two-way audio)

This is the same Remote Assistance feature set used on XR devices, enabling hands-free expert assistance for field workers and frontline staff.

Prerequisites

  • An Android phone compatible with Meta AI glasses. iOS/iPhone is not supported by ArborXR.

  • A pair of Meta AI glasses.

  • A Meta account for use with the Meta AI app.

  • An ArborXR account with admin permissions.

💡 Meta AI glasses do not run an operating system and are not "managed" by ArborXR. They appear in the portal only as peripherals of the Android phone they are paired to. Remote Assistance is the only feature supported on the glasses themselves.

Steps to add Meta AI glasses to ArborXR

Step 1: Accept the Meta Wearables Platform Supplement (some orgs only)

If your ArborXR organization was created before June 11th, 2026, go to your organization's Settings and toggle on Meta AI Glasses. Enabling this means you accept the Meta Wearables Platform Supplement to ArborXR's Terms of Service.

💡 If your organization was created after June 11th, 2026, you accepted the Supplement when you signed up for ArborXR and no action is needed here.

Step 2: Enroll the Android phone into ArborXR

This is the phone your glasses will pair to over Bluetooth. We recommend enrolling using a QR code.

Step 3: Install the Meta AI app and pair your glasses

On the enrolled phone:

  1. Download and install the Meta AI app from the Google Play Store.

  2. Sign in to the Meta AI app with your Meta account.

  3. Pair your Meta AI glasses following Meta's standard pairing flow.

Once your devices are connected to your phone and fully set up, proceed to the next step.

💡 Trouble pairing the glasses? Make sure you're using an Android phone that is compatible with Meta AI glasses and running the latest version of Android.

Step 4: Enable Developer Mode in the Meta AI app

This is required so ArborXR's Client can register with the Meta AI app and access the glasses.

  1. Open the Meta AI app and go to SettingsApp Info.

  2. Tap the App version number five times to reveal the Developer Mode toggle.

  3. Toggle Developer Mode on and tap Enable to confirm.

💡 See Meta's full guide: Enable developer mode in the Meta AI app.

Step 5: Power cycle the phone

After enabling Developer Mode, power cycle the phone, then re-open the Meta AI app. This triggers the "Connect ArborXR Client to your Meta devices" prompt described in the next step.

Step 5: Connect ArborXR Client to your Meta devices

After power cycling, the Meta AI app will automatically open and you'll see the Connect ArborXR Client to your Meta devices prompt.

  1. Toggle on Unverified app.

  2. Tap Connect.

This grants the ArborXR Client access to your paired glasses.

🎉 Your Meta AI glasses are now added to ArborXR

You can confirm this two ways:

  • From the phone: Navigate to the phone in the ArborXR portal. A new Meta Wearables tab now appears, with your glasses listed in the table.

  • From the devices list: Go to the Devices page and find the phone. A blue glasses icon appears next to its name, indicating that Meta glasses are paired. Click the icon to open a side drawer with details about the glasses.

Start a Remote Assistance session

Confirm user consent settings

By default, Remote Assistance sessions start without prompting the wearer. To require the user to grant permission at the start of every session, go to the relevant group (or ungrouped device's) > Settings > Security and enable Request User Consent for Remote Assist by checking the checkbox then clicking Save.

When enabled, the consent prompt appears on the phone, not on the glasses. The session won't start until the user taps Allow.

Initiate the session

You can start a Remote Assistance session two ways:

Option 1: From the phone's device page

  1. In the ArborXR portal, navigate to the phone the glasses are paired to.

  2. Click Remote Control & Assist.

  3. Select Cast [Meta AI glasses model].

Option 2: From the devices table

  1. On the Devices page, find the phone the glasses are paired to.

  2. Click the blue glasses icon to open the side drawer.

  3. In the Paired Wearables section, click Assist.

  4. Click Cast + Two-Way Audio.

💡 First time only: The first time you start a Remote Assistance session with a given pair of glasses, the Meta AI app prompts the wearer on the phone (not the glasses): "Allow ArborXR Client to access the camera on your Meta devices?" Tap Always allow, then Confirm. Choosing Always allow suppresses this prompt on future sessions. Allow once will surface it every session; Don't allow will block the session.
