Who can use this feature?

πŸ‘€ Organizations Owners, Admins, Group Admins, and custom roles with the "Configure Lock Task Mode (AR Device Models, Tablets, Smartphones)" permission.
🚩 Available on all plans.

Overview

Kiosk Mode restricts a device to one app (single-app) or a defined set of apps (multi-app). Users cannot access anything outside what you've configured.

Supported devices include:

  • Samsung Galaxy XR

  • Magic Leap 2

  • Vuzix devices

  • RealWear devices

  • Samsung Galaxy tablets

  • Lenovo tablets

πŸ’‘ Looking to set a custom APK as the device's home screen instead? See Configure In House Launcher.

Configure Single or Multi-App Kiosk Mode

  1. Navigate to the group or individual ungrouped device in question.

  2. Select the Kiosk Experience tab.

  3. Scroll down to the Lock Task Mode section.

  4. Select Kiosk Mode.

  5. Select one or more apps from the Managed Apps or Unmanaged Apps sections.

  6. Scroll down and click Save.

Expected Behavior

Single-app

If one app is selected in step 5, the device is configured to single-app kiosk mode. The designated app launches automatically on power-on. Users cannot exit it.

Multi-app

If more than one app is selected in step 5, the device is configured to multi-app kiosk mode. Users can only see and launch the apps you've configured.

⚠️ Samsung Galaxy XR devices behave differently in multi-app kiosk mode. The native launcher and all installed app icons remain visible, but users can only launch apps that have been allowlisted for kiosk mode.

πŸ’‘ Using kiosk mode on Android phones or tablets?

Pair multi-app kiosk mode with a custom wallpaper to create a branded home screen on Android phones and tablets.

Give End-Users Access to Device Settings

End-users may need access to device settings like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Follow these steps to give them access through the ArborXR portal:

  1. Go to the Content Library and create an Unmanaged App with the package name com.android.settings.

  2. In your group or device's multi-app Kiosk Mode configuration, check the box next to the Android Settings app.

  3. Click Save.

⚠️ This grants access to all device settings, not just Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. ArborXR does not currently support scoping settings access to specific menus. Ensure this is appropriate for your deployment before proceeding.
