Overview
ArborXR places devices exceeding the paid device limit into a 'pending limit increase' state.
Historically, to manage devices in this state, users either had to increase their device limit (and pay a prorated amount) or delete existing 'active' devices to free up capacity for the 'pending limit increase' devices.
This system presented a challenge for customers with fluctuating device counts, such as those renting devices for events and trade shows. To avoid being billed for their entire fleet, constant factory resetting and re-enrollment of devices was required—a time-consuming and inefficient process.
Now, users can now easily designate which devices to activate (up to their paid device limit) and which to suspend, all while keeping their entire fleet enrolled in ArborXR.
Steps to Move Devices between Active and Suspended
Devices in excess of your paid for device limit are clearly indicated as suspended in the ArborXR portal.
To switch devices between 'active' and 'suspended' states:
In the top right corner, directly above your device list, click the Device Limit button.
From the dropdown menu, select Manage active devices.
You'll see two tables: Active Devices and Suspended Devices. To change a device's status, simply select it in one table and move it to the other.
💡 Keep in mind that you can only have as many active devices as your current device limit allows. Your device limit is determined by the number of licenses you've paid for in your subscription. If you need to activate more devices than your current limit, you'll need to update your subscription to increase your device limit.
What Happens When Devices are Suspended?
When you suspend a device, here's what you can expect:
Content remains installed: Any content previously installed on the device will stay put.
Kiosk experience reverts: The device will return to its default home environment.
Group assignment is maintained: Devices will remain in their assigned groups, but they won't receive new content or configurations until they are reactivated.
