Overview

With Magic Leap 2 operating system (OS) management, you no longer need to manually update each device one-by-one via USB using the Magic Leap Hub desktop app. Instead, from the convenience of the ArborXR dashboard, you can update your entire Magic Leap 2 fleet to the latest OS version with just a few clicks.

⚠️ This feature is only supported on Magic Leap 2 devices running OS version 1.2 or higher. If devices are running an OS version earlier than 1.2, the devices will need to be updated manually one last time via the Magic Leap Hub desktop app.

Steps to Configure OS

  1. Navigate to the ungrouped device or configuration group in question.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Click Installs & Updates.

  4. Under Target Version, observe the default configuration is Not Managed by ArborXR. While in this state, OS updates are managed outside of ArborXR (e.g. via the Magic Leap Hub desktop app).

  5. Click on the input beneath Target Version to display a dropdown and then select one of the following:

    1. Latest (Auto Update): Devices will automatically update to the latest OS version made available through ArborXR.

    2. Pin a target version: With a target version pinned, devices will update to this version but not past it, even if a new OS version is released.

πŸ’‘ When pinning an OS version on a group of devices, not all devices may be on the same OS version. Some may already be on or ahead of the Target Version selected. If the Target Version selected on ArborXR is an older OS version compared to the OS version already installed on-device(s), the older version will not be installed on devices as OS rollbacks are not supported.

  6. Configure update criteria:

    1. Automatic: The update is both downloaded and installed as soon as the device comes online.

    2. Plugged In: The update is downloaded as soon as the device comes online. But it will not install until the device is plugged in. Once plugged in, the update will install immediately.

    3. Scheduled: The update is downloaded as soon as the device comes online. But it will not install until the scheduled installation time. Once the device falls within the scheduled installation time, the update will install immediately.

    4. Plugged In + Scheduled: The update is downloaded as soon as the device comes online. But it will not install until the device is both plugged in AND the scheduled time is reached. Once the device is plugged in and falls within the scheduled installation time, the update will install immediately.

  7. Click Apply Changes to save.
