Overview

Kiosk Mode is ArborXR's solution for kiosking AR headsets and Android tablets to either a single app or a set of apps.

Supported devices include, but are not limited to:

  • Magic Leap 2

  • Vuzix devices

  • RealWear devices

  • Samsung Galaxy tablets

  • Lenovo tablets

Configure Kiosk Mode

  1. Navigate to the group or individual ungrouped device in question.

  2. Select the Device Experience tab.

  3. Select Kiosk Mode.

  4. Select apps:

    • Click on Managed Apps to expand the section then select the managed app(s) that users should have access to.

    • Click on Unmanaged Apps to expand the section then select the unmanaged app(s) that users should have access to within ArborXR Home.

πŸ’‘ For more information about unmanaged apps, see this article.

  5. Scroll down and click Apply Changes.

Expected Behavior

Single-app

If a single app is selected in step 4 across both the Managed Apps and Unmanaged Apps sections, devices will be configured to single-app kiosk mode. While in single-app kiosk mode, the designated kiosk app will automatically launch upon powering on the devices and users will not be able to escape the kiosk app.

Multi-app

If multiple apps are select in step 4 across both the Managed Apps and Unmanaged Apps sections, devices will be configured to multi-app kiosk mode. While in multi-app kiosk mode, users will be able to launch into the selected apps via the device's native launcher. While other apps may be visible in the device's native launcher, users will only be able to launch the apps that have been selected in step 4.

Enable Access to Device Settings for End-Users

End-users may need access to device settings like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Follow these steps to give them access through the ArborXR portal:

  1. Go to the Content Library in the ArborXR portal. Create an Unmanaged App for the Android Settings app. The package name is com.android.settings.

  2. Set up multi-app Kiosk Mode for your group or individual device:

    • Follow the steps above for setting up multi-app Kiosk Mode.

    • When configuring, expand the Unmanaged Apps section. Check the box next to the Android Settings app.

⚠️ Adding the Android Settings app as an unmanaged app gives end-users access to all device settings in multi-app Kiosk Mode. ArborXR does not currently have a way to grant access to only certain settings like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. So the entire Android Settings app must be whitelisted. This means end-users will be able to modify any device settings.
