Meta has announced a change to how Quest devices are sold and supported for enterprise use. Your current XR program is unaffected, but if you’re planning to expand with Meta devices, this change opens up new options.
What Is Changing
Starting February 20, 2026:
Horizon managed services (HMS) will be free
HMS and commercial SKUs of Meta Quest headsets will no longer be available for purchase
Quest devices will be available for purchase through a wider range of sources and will be able to be enrolled using HMS
HMS will continue to be supported through January 4th, 2030, but will be in maintenance mode
What Is Not Changing
HMS remains required for device enrollment
Devices will still need to be configured to either shared mode or individual mode
ArborXR provides robust, enterprise-grade management for Meta devices at any scale
As an official Meta partner, ArborXR maintains full, seamless integration with HMS
All existing device management features and operational workflows are fully supported and remain consistent within the ArborXR platform
What This Means for Your Organization
If you're planning to add Quest devices or expand your XR program:
Meta device pricing is expected to align with consumer pricing
Procurement for Meta devices will now shift to consumer storefronts and authorized retailers, as commercial SKUs are being phased out
Enrollment requirements and device modes (i.e. shared mode and individual mode) remain the same, but without HMS licensing fees
Getting started with XR just got easier and cheaper. Scaling a program still takes the right foundation and a team you can rely on.
That’s where ArborXR comes in:
A dedicated support team focused on your deployment and day-to-day operations
Enterprise-grade device management to keep fleets secure, compliant, and running smoothly
Data integrations that connect XR to your existing systems and reporting
A platform and roadmap built for enterprise and education, not consumer use cases
Trusted by thousands of XR teams in 90+ countries
HMS handles basic enrollment. ArborXR provides the infrastructure, support, and partnership that helps XR programs run reliably at scale.
